2013 in pictures

2013 was the year of the good, the bad and the ugly….

It was hard, it was sometimes scary and ofcourse there was lots of joy πŸ™‚

Blackberry #2 finally joined the family at home and I had to learn to be the Momma of 2 boys.

Jan.15th was the day, that after 51 days in the NICU, we got to bring Blackberry #2 home from the clinic. This was the day that Blackberry #1 got to meet his little brother for the first time! (no kids are allowed in the NICU).

I didn’t think we would be home by that time, since the year started out bad, really bad. After doing really well, and having all his IV-s out, nothing sticking out of him, on january 1st Blackberry #2 caught some infection and became really ill, and I went in the clinic the first day of the year to find him with an IV in his head, and his leg and arm tied together so he wouldn’t yank it out. Everything started all over again, no milk, antibiotics, IVs, monitors etc….This is exactly why they call your stay at the NICU a rollercoaster. You have good days and then you have bad days and you never know what to expect. But luckily he was strong and became well again soon and was home by the middle of the month πŸ™‚

It was carnival at pre-school and Blackberry #1 was a viking!

Blackberry #2 got to go for his first walk in the outside world in his stroller πŸ™‚

I was a little worried: it was 16 Celsius outside and look at all the clothes I put on him πŸ™‚

It was Easter and Blackberry #1 went on an egg hunt πŸ™‚

It was Mothers day at Pre-school.

Blackberry #1 was the birdie in the play πŸ™‚

Summer (June-July-August)

Summer was hot, and fun and relaxing. We went on a couple of vacations πŸ™‚

I had my birthday in july, I turned old 😦

We carved a pumpkin and Blackberry #2 learned to stand and sit πŸ™‚

We celbrated the birthdays of the Blackberries πŸ™‚ (6 and 1)

We went on a winter vacation (post coming soon), celebrated Christmas and rang in the new year πŸ™‚

2014 will be exciting: Blackberry #1 will start school in the fall, and hopefully Blackberry #2 will start to walk and talk πŸ™‚

I hope we will have good health and less doctors appointments.

I hope to travel  abroad (the last time I left the country was in 2011 😦

How was your 2013?

  1. Wow, look at the difference between Blackberry #2 at the start of the year and him at the end! Bet you wish you’d had those future photos to look at when you were in the NICU.

Blackberry #1 seems to have come along, too, of course – love the smile on his face when he finally met little bro.

    • You are so right! I remember in the NICU they had pictures of kids who used to be in the NICU and how they looked now. Those pictures kind of gave me hope, but I kept thinking that I wish I could fast forward the time to see that everything will be allright…
Blackberry #1 is a great big brother. He still has that smile on his face every time he sees the little one πŸ™‚

  2. Very emotional year indeed! But that’s life no one knows what’s around the corner.
In my opinion the best of all is that both kids are doing fine and especially Blackberry 2 after a difficult start in life! You are doing a great job and believe me the years when the kids are so young even if they are tricky some times are the best ones , especially for a mother .
I decided to stay home after the birth of Celeste ( after nine years , not nine months!) , I was 33 , five years later Mariangela came .
Being a full time mother you share every little step & every little development of the children, which is a miracle and this experience is the best of your life. You grow up as well to a full person .
Enjoy it as much as you can .<3 xx

      • They are wonderful memories…good and not so good but happy because December arrived and you all celebrated! I can’t get over how small blackberry #2 was!! And now look at him with those beautiful blue eyes. I’m sure it will be a great year for you all!
