Festetics Palace

At the end of summer we took another vacation to Lake Balaton, this time to the southern shore.

We had a rainy day and decided to visit Festetics Palace in Keszthely.

The Festetics Palace is a Baroque palace located in the town of Keszthely, Hungary. Its construction was started in 1745, lasted more than a century, during which the palace, built at first on the foundations of a ruined castle, was tripled in size.

The counts Festetics were progressive landowners: Kristรณf Festetics founded a hospital, Pรกl Festetics established a school in the town, and in 1797, Count Gyรถrgy Festetics opened an Agricultural University, the Georgikon, Europe’s first agricultural college, which is still in operation as a faculty of the University of Pannonia. The palace houses several permanent exhibitions: Aristocratic lifestyle exhibition, Coach and Carriage Exhibition, Historical Model railway.

The ticket prices are too expensive for my taste and getting around with a baby/toddler was not always easy (lots of steps, no where to feed him etc), but we still had a good time.

I love this photo ๐Ÿ™‚ I guess the rain was good for something ๐Ÿ™‚ To make interesting reflections ๐Ÿ™‚

This was my favorite carriage. I thought it would be perfect for Cinderella or Snow White ๐Ÿ™‚ But actually it was a carriage used to carry coffins ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Summer Vacation Part 1

Destination: Lake Balaton or the Hungarian Sea

Time: First week of July

Travelling: BB#1 and BB#2, Husband, My Brother, his little girl alias my niece, My Parents and myself.

ย Lake Balaton is a freshwater lake in HUNGARY. It is the largest lake in Central Europe and one of Hungary’s foremost tourist destinations.ย

The mountainous region of the northern shore is known both for its historic character and as a major wine region, while the flat southern shore is known for its resort towns

We usually visit the southern shore but this time our destination was Balatonalmadi, located on the northern shore.

In Hungary lots of companies own accomodations by the lake, and workers can book rooms at these accomodations for a cheaper price. We booked 3 rooms at the accomodation for the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The accomodation consists of about 20 rooms, a lovely garden, a restaurant and another private beach located right on the lake, which can only be accessed by the people staying there. We got breakfast and lunch at the restaurant. The whole thing had a very friendly atmosphere and there were not many more guests there. Ofcourse it is not a 5 star hotel, for example there is no air conditioning and the furniture is pretty outdated but everything else was ok.The food was really good and plenty and most of the time even the kids ate it ๐Ÿ™‚ For dinner we choose a different restaurant each night, so that was also fun.

Most days we just relaxed on the private beach, which was a really big green garden with sunbeds, chairs, ping pong table, playground and each room had its private locker that was big enough to go into it and change your clothes. The private beach was about a 3 minute walk from the accomodation so really close.

One of the many desserts at the Academy restaurant. IT has apples in it. Yummy.

More to come in the next post.

Project 52, Week #27

ย We are back from our vacation to Lake Balaton. This week’s Project 52 photos were taken there at the beach. BB#2 loved all the green grass, and I was finally able to relax that he could practice his walking, running in a safe environment. Love his shadow in the picture ๐Ÿ™‚

Ten Thoughts Tuesday

1. Last Friday we had a really fun playdate at a friends house that has a huge garden with a trompoline, swings, sand pit and lots of animals (dogs, cats, chickens, roosters, rabbits, turtles, parrots, fishes, chinchilla and their neighbours even have 2 emus!).

2. Sunday I had brunch with the Blackberry Boys at a cafe in a Butik Hotel. You can read about it here: https://theblackberryboys.wordpress.com/2014/06/29/sunday-brunch-with-the-blackberry-boys/

3. Yesterday I could finally get a babysitter and I went to get a pedicure. My toes are now really nice red ๐Ÿ™‚ I left the car at a mall, so on my way back I went into H & M and bought a T-Shirt with anchor prints on it ๐Ÿ™‚

4. Today I got a babysitter again for 1 hour and went to a beauty saloon. I got my eyebrows done and had some waxing done (OUCH). Now I am somewhat prettier, or at least less hairy….

5. BB#1 had his first speech therapy. The Teacher seems really nice and patient. She said what I was thinking, we have to work on the “R” sound. Next Therapy will be next wednesday.

6. BB#1 will have his first swimming class (this summer) from 6 pm tonight. Tomorrow he will also go from 9 am.

7. I am really hoping that by some miracle he will learn to swim this summer, Because he has been going for 3 summers so far and that is alot of money spent on swimming classes… But at least he is enjoying it, he loves the water…

8. We leave for our vacation to LAKE BALATON on thursday.

9. I still haven’t started packing ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I always end up packing till midnight before we leave ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

10. Please leave in the comments section where you and your family are going on vacation this summer (or where you have already been to…)
