When Mommy is ill

I have been ill since sunday. It started with being tired, aching all over. Then a stuffy nose, sore throat. Then a runny nose and now the fun part: coughing.

When you are a Mom and you are ill it is no fun. No one takes care of you. At least my husband is not that kind. He is even afraid of me then and says stupid things like that he will catch whatever I have just by breathing in the same room 🙂 So no help from husband…I am ok with this part, not being taken care of. I can take care of myself. But taking care of 2 little ones while being ill is another story!

I have been wearing a surgeon mask all week to minimize the chance of BB#2 catching this lovely microorganism. It is kind of hard to take care of a 2 year old all week in a surgeon mask. For one he thinks it is funny and wants to take it off all the time 🙂 I try to minimize contact with him but how the hell are you supposed to do that when you are the one that changes his diaper, feeds him, dresses him etc…. I just really hope he stays healthy because he has his appointment at the pediatric cardiologist next tuesday, (the one we got 6 months ago… ) and he is super cranky at those even when he is healthy.

Then there is BB#1. Getting up early every day while sick, to get him ready for school, remembering every day what he is supposed to take with him, doing homework in the afternoons. Yesterday was carnival day, I had to make his indian head gear for him and take him in the morning get his costume on and then go back an hour later and see the carnival itself…. All while being sick…..

Back to the coughing: the part I hate the most. I cannot sleep because when I lay down I cough. I had 1 and a half hours of sleep last night…. But tonight I will get Dextromethorphan, (an over the counter cough medicine) and hopefully get some sleep!!!! Thank God for opiates 🙂 Have I mentioned I wrote my PhD on my research on opiates?

But first this Mommy has to pick up BB#1 at school and take him to speech therapy.

How do you cope being a Mom when ill?

WordPress Family Award

I was nominated by the lovely Evangelia for the WordPress Family Award. I am honoured, thank you very much!

She is a brilliant and versatile and productive blogger. Go check her out if you don’t know her yet:

http://evelenmargaret.com/2013/12/04/versatile-blogger-award-and-wordpress-family-award-my-turn-to-honour/

6 things to say about me :

1. I am the black sheep in my family. Everybody else in my family (Mother, Father, Brother) is a Chemist. I am the only Biologist. I guess I still got the scientist gene. I remember watching liquid nitrogen land on smooth floor and chasing the “bubbles” (ofcourse without touching) when I was 6 years old.

Here is a picture of me at my last conference in Athens, Greece in 2011 at the poster presentation. I cut off the results part of the poster, since the article is still in progress…

2. I have a Ph.D. in Theoretical Medical Sciences. My Thesis was in the subject of pain research focusing on Opiate Receptors.

3. This is my second time being a stay at home Mom. I stayed at home with Blackberry #1 for 2 years and 3 months.

4. I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. 😦

5. I lived in the US for about 4 years. (In Arizona and in Louisiana).

6. I always pictured that I would have girls. 2 of them. Now I am blessed with 2 boys. I am not ungrateful, but a part of me will always long for a little girl. Maybe I will get her in the form of a Grandchild later on in life 🙂

There are so many great blogs on WordPress so it was really hard to choose, but here are my six nominees.:

Stay At Home Mom

Today marks the one year anniversary of me not working, but staying at home and caring for the boys.

This is my second round of being a stay at home Mom (SAHM). I stayed home with Blackberry #1 for 2 years and 2 months before going back to work.

I remember back then I always thought that being a stay at home Mom was way harder than when I was working 🙂

Then I went back to work full time, and still had to do everything else then before, so that was even more harder!

The best part about going to work was being able to go to the bathroom alone  🙂 and having lunch with other adults while I only needed to feed myself and no one else:)

This time around I am truly enjoying being a SAHM! Blackberry #2 will be my last child so I am trying to soak all the joys of being home with a baby.

Here in Hungary the government supports women to stay at home for a longer amount of time after birth. If you qualify (meaning you had a job for about 2 years before giving birth) then first you get TGYAS  for the first about 6 months, which is close to the amount you got as a salary before. From when the baby is 6 months to 2 years old you get GYED, which is calculated according to your salary but it is also maximalised so it cannot be more than  70 % of the minimal wage x2.  And than from when the child is 2 years to 3 years old, you can get Gyes, which is really a small amount of money enough maybe to buy nappies for  2 months. But at least there is an opportunity for Moms here to choose to stay at home. The only problem with staying at home is that alot of work places don’t take you back after you are ready to return.

Also part time jobs are very rare which would be ideal for women with small children.

Most people still think SAHM-s don’t do much, but any SAHM will tell you that is not the case 🙂

There is never enough hours in a day.

Even though I don’t need my Masters degree in biology or my Ph.D. in Theoretical Medical Sciences to fill this job, it is still the best job in the world 🙂

Here are some funny stuff from Pinterest:
